Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. manufactures and sells medical device systems utilizing its unique particle accelerator technology. Its main products include nuclear medicine diagnostic drug manufacturing systems, proton beam therapy systems, and boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) systems. The Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) system was developed in collaboration with academia, including Kyoto University, and received the world's first medical device approval in 2020 in Japan. Since then, it has continued to be stabely used clinically. At the 2025 Kansai Expo, Sumitomo Heavy Industries exhibited at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion, together with Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Kyoto University, Stella Pharma Co., Ltd., and other members of the Kansai BNCT Study Group, with the aim of increasing awareness of BNCT.
