The Promotion Committee of Biomedical Engineering and Technology is one of the New Field Promotion Councils established within the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) for a limited period to foster the development of emerging interdisciplinary research fields and to promote related survey and research activities. Mechanical engineering and mechanical technologies play vital roles in the broad medical and healthcare industry, including medical devices, healthcare equipment, and medical and welfare technologies. Promoting collaboration between the needs of these fields and the manufacturing sector is becoming an increasingly important theme for the future of mechanical engineering. Biomedical engineering, which forms the academic foundation of these fields, has already been established as a distinct discipline, and active research and development activities are being conducted across various divisions of JSME. However, further efforts are needed to strengthen collaboration with the medical and healthcare industry from a technological and practical perspective. As a cross-divisional organization, the Promotion Committee of Biomedical Engineering and Technology seeks to strengthen collaboration among JSME divisions related to biomedical engineering while identifying the needs of the medical and healthcare industry. The Committee also considers and develops the foundation for activities that can further advance the academic potential of biomedical engineering into practical technologies that contribute to society.
