Informazioni
The Japanese Society for Biomaterials, founded in 1978, completed its incorporation as a general incorporated association on April 25 of this year and will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary. Our society has made significant contributions to the research, development, and practical application of biomaterials originating in Japan, including polymeric materials (bioabsorbable osteosynthetic devices, MPC polymers, and artificial blood vessels), metallic materials (alkali- and heat-treated titanium, stents, and honeycomb-tree-structured spinal spacers), inorganic materials (carbonate apatite bone substitutes and OCP bone substitutes), and drug delivery system (DDS) materials. Many of these technologies are already being used clinically worldwide, while others are approaching widespread societal implementation. These biomaterials represent achievements made possible through the integration of Japan’s strengths in materials science, biology, clinical medicine, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Furthermore, the Society brings together members from a wide range of disciplines and professions, including materials scientists, chemists, biologists, physicians, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians, industrial researchers, and professionals involved in government and regulatory affairs. As a result, the Japanese Society for Biomaterials serves as a uniquely interdisciplinary academic platform where topics ranging from fundamental research to commercialization and societal implementation can be discussed seamlessly. Through these activities, the Society continues to promote the creation of innovative medical technologies and their translation into tangible benefits for society.
