The Center is the coordinator of the activities of bodies and institutions of Belarus conducting state sanitary supervision, the main methodological center providing support for activities in the field of sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the country's population. From July 1, 2024, the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health included the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Research Institute of Hygiene” and the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, which made it possible to expand the areas of its activities. The purpose of the state institution is to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population, including work to promote a healthy lifestyle and the promotion of hygienic knowledge. The main functions and tasks of a government agency include:
1. Testing activities, including sampling and conducting organoleptic, chemical, microbiological, physical, toxicological, biochemical, immunological, allergological, radiometric studies (tests) of food products, consumer goods, medical products and medical equipment, medicines, industrial waste, chemical products, pesticides, raw materials, new types of products, objects and environmental factors in order to assess compliance with legal requirements. 2. Organization and implementation of preclinical and clinical trials of medical devices, medical equipment and medicines. 3. Carrying out quality control of medicines before they go on sale, as well as medicines in circulation on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. 4. Preparation and examination of draft assignments for state, industry scientific and technical programs, state scientific research programs. 5. Implementation of activities within the framework of the implementation of state programs in the field of sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population, carrying out activities to develop in citizens conscious behavior in relation to their health, a system of views aimed at choosing a healthy lifestyle and high demand for personal health. 6. Development, together with bodies and institutions carrying out state sanitary supervision, government bodies, as well as scientific substantiation of republican comprehensive programs (plans) of anti-epidemic measures, draft technical and other regulatory legal acts, methodological, information documents and other visual materials on the issues of ensuring sanitary and epidemiological well-being and the formation of a healthy lifestyle of the population. 7. Carrying out organizational, methodological, supervisory (control) activities, identifying priority areas for preventing and eliminating or reducing the adverse impact of human environmental factors on the health of the population based on a comprehensive analysis of the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the republic. 8. Epidemiological surveillance to prevent the introduction, occurrence, spread of infectious and widespread non-infectious diseases. The Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, taking into account the specifics of its activities, provides a number of services to both citizens and legal entities.
